Severn and Somme and War’s Embers, poems; Ivor Gurney

Two collections of poems (published in 1 volume), some of which explore the Severn’s upper, tidal, landscape, some in relation to World War One (1914 – 18). Ivor Gurney  ( 1890 – 1937) was an English poet and composer (particularly of songs). He was born and raised in Gloucester. He served in the army and fought in the trenches. Some of the poems written during that terrible time recall times by the Severn, and even fishing in the Severn at Arlingham with his father. Sadly he succumbed to mental illness and spent his last years in an asylum. More info here Wikipedia
